Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. is incredibly honored to offer The David S. Utterberg Collection (lots 1558-1688) in their February 15 & 16 Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines. Mr. Utterberg has been acquiring collectable bottles for over three decades and cellaring the wines for drinking. His passion for wine began in college and has continued throughout his life. All wines were purchased from top retailers and select Christie’s and Sotheby’s auctions in the ‘80s and ‘90s, with many original purchase receipts. Mr. Utterberg kept a detailed ledger of all purchases, and all wines have been stored professionally or in his custom home cellar.
With over 130 lots dating back to 1961, the collection is comprised of impeccable rare Burgundy, Bordeaux, Italian, Rhône, and more. Offered first from the cellar are 40 lots of mature Bordeaux including 9 bottles of the remarkable 1982 Château Lafite Rothschild (lot 1569, est. $18,000-28,000) and a full case of the 100-point 1989 Château Haut-Brion (lot 1586, est. $16,000-24,000).
The selection of Red and White Burgundy is astounding. A full case of 1990 La Tâche, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (lot 1603, est. $55,000-85,000), which was strapped prior to inspection at HDH, is offered alongside 12 bottles of 1985 Clos de la Roche, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Ponsot (lot 1615, est. $55,000-85,000). Three lots of Henri Jayer standout as well: 6 bottles of 1985 Echézeaux (lot 1616, est. $30,000-45,000); 2 bottles of 1985 Richebourg (lot 1620, est. $22,000-32,000); and 6 bottles of 1985 Vosne-Romanée, Cros Parantoux (lot 1622, est. $45,000-65,000). Henri Jayer is regarded as one of the most highly coveted producers in Burgundy, so don’t miss out on these lots. Coche-Dury lovers will find three lots of the 99-point 1986 Corton-Charlemagne (lots 1633-1635).
Bidders will find 5 bottles of the 1985 Côte Rôtie, Côte Brune, Cuvée Reservée, Marius Gentaz-Dervieux (lot 1647, est. $11,000-17,000). Gentaz-Dervieux produced a mere 600-800 cases of wine annually and ceased production in 1993. His wines are accordingly rare gems in the wine market today. Italian lovers will find several impressive lots from Bruno Giacosa including a full case of 1982 Barolo Riserva, Collina Rionda (lot 1683, est. $35,000-55,000).
The David S. Utterberg Collection is genuinely remarkable – these wines boast perfect provenance and have not moved in over two decades. Mr. Utterberg and his wife have chosen to share their collection with other wine lovers, bidders will not want to miss out on this incredible cellar.
Hart Davis Hart’s two-day auction will be held February 15 & 16 at Spiaggia, beginning at 8:30am CT each day. Bidders can place all live and absentee bids by downloading HDH’s mobile app or by visiting their auction website.
