Hart Davis Hart February Sale Brings in $10.3 Million Showing Strength of Market Continuing Into 2021

Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., the #1 wine auction house in the U.S., kicked off what promises to be a tremendous auction year with a blockbuster 100% sold February auction which brought in a total of $10.3 million against a pre-sale estimate of $5.8-8.7 million. The quality and breadth of HDH’s February sale attracted participants from every corner of the U.S. and around the world. Prices were incredibly strong as bidders drove 88% of all lots in the sale to exceed their high estimates. These impressive results solidified Hart Davis Hart’s reputation as the top choice for collectors to represent cellars of incredible quality.

The two-day auction featured treasures from virtually every wine region. The Very Best of Burgundy from A Preeminent American Collector (lots 1133-1604) achieved remarkable results, bringing in $4.8 million against a pre-sale estimate of $2.8-4.2 million. This collection was one of the most exciting groups ever to be offered at auction and represented the finest Burgundy available on the market. Highlights from this special group included 6 magnums of 2007 La Tâche, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti which garnered $65,725 (lot 1169, est. $35,000-55,000); 2 bottles of 1996 Musigny, Domaine Leroy that brought in $45,410 (lot 1313, est. $22,000-32,000); a full case of 1993 Bonnes-Mares, Georges Roumier which sold for $53,775 (lot 1390, est. $28,000-42,000); and 12 bottles of 2007 Chambertin, Armand Rousseau that garnered $35,850 (lot 1487, est. $16,000-24,000).

Also featured was A Professor’s Curated Collection (lots 74-252) which brought in $1.02 million against a pre-sale estimate of $545,000-814,000. This consignment featured 6 bottles of 1999 Richebourg, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti which sold for $31,070 (lot 91, est. $16,000-24,000); a full case of 1999 Echèzeaux, Henri Jayer for Georges Jayer which garnered $71,700 (lot 129, est. $40,000-60,000); 2 bottles of 1999 Musigny, Georges Roumier which brought in $31,070 (lot 173, est. $16,000-24,000); and 7 bottles of the rare 1991 Côte Rôtie, Côte Brune, Cuvée Reservée, Marius Gentaz-Dervieux which sold for $38,240 (lot 225, est. $16,000-24,000).

In addition to these stunning groups, Bordeaux, California, and Rhône had strong hammer prices. Top lots included 5 bottles of 2009 Ermitage, Cuvée Cathelin, Jean-Louis Chave which garnered $45,410 (lot 26, est. $17,000-26,000); 1 bottle of 1959 Inglenook Winery Cabernet Sauvignon that sold for $6,573 (lot 591, est. $350-550); and a 5-liter jeroboam of 1982 Château Margaux which brought in $23,900 (lot 1719, est. $4,500-6,500).
