Hart Davis Hart Realizes $11.2M at Last Week’s Celebration of Burgundy Auction

With sales totaling $11,187,291, last week’s Hart Davis Hart auction toppled its pre-sale low estimate of $7.9M, selling through 100% of its 3,274 lots over two exciting days. Top lots of the day included multiple vintages of DRC’s Romanée-Conti, alongside a pristine six-pack of 1988 Georges Roumier Bonnes-Mares. The Roumier sold for an impressive $45,410, and was one of several lots from that producer to set a new world record price.

HDH continues to attract the industry’s largest bidding pool with upward trends in both absentee and live bidding. An increased average number of bids per lot highlights this current market’s strength. Auctioneers opened lots for live bidding with upwards of ten to fifteen absentee bids already in place. Participation continues to grow exponentially from South America and Western Europe, while Asia’s presence remains firmly intact. In all, the sale drew bidders from 15 different countries around the world.

While the auction highlighted collections from Burgundy, many other categories showed significant results, including Champagne, Italian reds, Loire, white and red Bordeaux, Spain, and sweet Bordeaux, which all hammered at or above the midpoint of their estimates. D’Yquem performed notably well, with several lots hammering above the high estimate.
