An outstanding Roy Rogers collection will be auctioned on January 10.
The collection is owned by James and Nora Hood from Taneytown, Maryland. The Hoods have collected Roy Rogers items for many years. When Nora was a young girl, Roy Rogers was her idol. Later in life Nora received a gift from her daughter that was a Roy Rogers collection, and it all started from there. James Hood also liked Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and when his wife starting collecting he took the same interest in collecting.
James and Nora went to auctions, flea markets, yard sales and shopped online for items to add to their collection. As time went on, antiques dealers started looking for Roy Rogers items to sell to them. The Hoods belonged to the Roy Rogers Dale Evans Collectors Association, and had contacts all over the United States to buy items for their collection. As the collection grew, they dedicated one room in their home to display it.
The auction will consist of 364 cataloged lots of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans items. Included in the auction is a rare Roy Rogers outfit that only 12 coloring contest winners received in Houston, Texas, presented by The Houston Chronicle in February, 1950. This outfit is the only known outfit still complete with all accessories, including wristwatch, gold pistols on holster, hat, scarf, boots and the complete outfit.
Other outstanding lots are: a Roy Rogers outfit still on the mannequin out of a Sears store in New Hampshire; original 1950’s Roy Rogers child’s leather saddle; an autographed hat that Roy Rogers wore in one of his movies, and a picture of Roy, Dale and others with hat in photo. Also offered in this unusual sale will be: a hobby horse, magazines, books, paper goods, autographed items, arcade cards, comic books and autographed comic book covers, toys, pins, badges, premiums, clothing, boots, hats and accessories, real guns, BB guns and toy guns and pistols, wristwatches, lunchboxes and thermoses, and many other items.
The auction will be held at Porters Fire Company, 1199 Porters Road, Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. Auctioneer Randy Dickensheets of Pa. OnSite Auction Company will begin the sale at 9 a.m. sharp.
