Bloomsbury New York 20th Century Prints and Works of Art on Paper Auction

Bloomsbury Auctions announces its third New York auction dedicated to 20th Century Prints and Works of Art on Paper, to be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 2:00 pm.

martin-lewis-relics.jpg20th Century Prints and Works of Art on Paper features a stellar collection of American works, including Edward Hopper, Martin Lewis, John Sloan and Reginald Marsh. Included in this sale are Edward Hopper’s “Night Shadows,” a signed etching from 1921 ($20,000-30,000), works by Martin Lewis, including “Relics (Speakeasy Corner)” from 1928 ($20,000-30,000), “Rain on Murray Hill,” a drypoint from 1928, and “Quarter of Nine, Saturday’s Children”, a drypoint from 1929 ($15,000-20,000).

There are also many works by Stow Wengenroth, including “Lower Fifth Avenue”, a lithograph from 1959 ($5000-7000), “Quiet Hour” a lithograph from 1947 ($4,000-6000) and “New York Nocturne,” a lithograph from 1945 ($4000-6000). Additionally, there is John Sloan’s “Night Windows” ($3,000-5,000), a complete set of “Thirty Etchings and Engravings” by Reginald Marsh, published by the Whitney Museum ($10,000-15,000) and the Crafton Collection of 12 volumes, each containing an etching by a different artist, including Martin Lewis’ “The Little Penthouse” ($15,000-20,000 for the set).

Also included in this sale are Grant Wood’s signed lithographs “January”, “February” and “March” from 1938 ($3,000-5,000 each), James A.M. Whistler’s “The Kitchen” from 1858 ($5,000-7,000) and Andy Warhol’s “Mammy,” a study for the silkscreen of the same title with the rubber stamps of the estate of Andy Warhol and the Andy Warhol Authentication Board verso. A diverse selection of Modern, Contemporary and Pop works on paper provide an opportunity for buyers at every level of the market to participate in this delightful sale.
