Kaminski Summer Estates Auction

Kaminski Auctions, one of Massachusetts’ premier antiques and fine art auction houses, announces its Summer Estates Auction. The two-day auction features antiques, fine art and collectibles from estates spanning Massachusetts to Kaminski’s second location in California. The auction takes place Saturday and Sunday June 27-28 next to the Windward Grille at 109 Eastern Ave. in Essex, Massachusetts. Bidding commences at 10am each day and previews are scheduled Friday, June 26 from 10am-6pm and 8-10am on the days of the auction. A complete catalog is available online at www.KaminskiAuctions.com and the auction will also feature live online bidding through LiveAuctioneers.com. For more information, call 978-927-2228.

Highlighting the auction is a stunning 18th Century Queen Anne tiger maple highboy (Est. $15,000-$25,000). The 6-drawer highboy boasts fine brass hardware and a carved-fan on the lower chest. Standing 71 inches tall, this remarkable piece is sure to draw the attention of period furniture collectors.

Fine art offerings include an artist proof by Shimon Okshteyn (Russian, b.1951) for Cover Girls (Est. $8,000-$12,000). The print, numbered third in an edition of ten, is signed by the artist and depicts three seated women, their figures partially concealed by dramatic shadows. Okshteyn, who currently lives and works in New York City, immigrated to the United States from Ukraine in 1979. A prolific and well-collected artist, his original paintings are highly sought-after at auction and frequently sell in the high five-figure range.

A painting by R. Swain Gifford (American, 1840-1905) is also featured. Gifford, who drew much of his inspiration from the works of Barbizon artists, is known for his depictions of sweeping New England landscapes. The painting (Est. $10,000-$15,000) measures 32 x 38 inches and is signed by the artist.

Two works by French artist Andre Lhote (1885-1962) are also offered at this diverse two-day auction. Love, an original drawing (Est. $4,000-$6,000), measures 22.5 x 26. 5 inches in its frame. The second drawing, titled Le Matelot Sous Sa Chemise, measures 26.5 x 27.5 in its frame. Both drawings are signed by the artist.

Also included in the sale is a 17th Century Italian carved wooden figure of a man (Est. $4,500-$6,500). The piece is mounted on a separate wood base and features a complementary patina. Standing just over 34 inches tall, this rare carving is likely an artist’s depiction of a monk.
