The Madison square garden concerts took place over two days and finished the night before the 9/11 attacks on New York. The concerts were recorded as part of a CBS special and are estimated to have been watched by 44 million people. The show sold out in 5 hours and tickets are reported to have been among the most expensive for a pop concert ever sold.

The hat is one of Jackson’s trademark black fedoras, the inside band of which features his name in gilt lettering. The shoes are black loafers by Sebago, the sole of each is signed and inscribed ‘Rock My World Billie Jean’.

The Bonhams sale will also feature a 1980s fedora worn by the star and the original cassette demo of the star singing ‘I Never Heard’ (This Is It).According to information supplied, this recording was given to the vendor by Paul Anka when they met in London in 1983, shortly after it had been recorded in Anka’s studio in California. Anka co-wrote the song with Michael and personally recorded Michael’s vocal performance, which is that used on the recently-released version of the song, now titled ‘This Is It’.

Finally, the puppet of Michael Jackson from the irreverent 80s show ‘Spitting Image’ will also go under the hammer and is valued at up to £4,000. It is dressed in one of the military style jackets often seen on the singer.
