Bonhams Hong Kong Announce Modern Wristwatches 2011 Autumn Auction for November 27

Bonhams announce its Modern Wristwatches Autumn Auction to be held on November 27, 2011, at the Island Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong. The auction offers over 180 lots of rare vintage time pieces as well as limited edition, modern models from the finest watch brands; estimates total over HK$14 million. This beguiling array of modern wristwatches will appeal to the most discerning watch connoisseurs and collectors the world over.

The auction offers more than 15 lots of Patek Philippe wristwatches from different periods. Among these fine time pieces, is the most expensive lot of the sale, Lot 1371; an 18ct rose gold perpetual calendar chronograph manual wind wristwatch, Reference 5970R, estimated at HK$1million – 1.3million. Additional featured time pieces from this much beloved brand are two perpetual calendar chronograph manual wind wristwatches, Reference 3970. Lot 1357, in 18ct gold, is a model from the Third Series estimated at HK$550,000 – 700,000 and Lot 1375, also in 18ct rose gold, is a model from an earlier series with an inter-woven bracelet that is a rarer model. It is estimated at HK$700,000 – 800,000. Lot 1376 is another highlighted piece, a vintage 1960-make Patek Philippe perpetual calendar in 18ct gold, Reference 3448, estimated to fetch HK$550,000 – 740,000. Other Patek Philippe highlights include the following: Lot 1374, 18ct gold manual wind wristwatch with a 10-day power reserve, Reference 5100, estimated at HK$350,00 – 480,000; Lot 1287, 18ct white gold manual wind chronograph, Reference 5070, estimated at HK$500,000- 600,000 and finally, Lot 1290, PT950 platinum automatic annual calendar chronograph, Reference 5960, estimated at HK$600,000 – 700,000.

Also on offer are wristwatches with diamonds, highly coveted time pieces that will surely tickle the ladies’ fancy and sophisticated taste. Lot 1253 is a Piaget Limelight with more than 9 carats of sparkling colourless diamonds set on an 18ct white gold wristwatch. It is estimated at HK$250,000 – 350,000. For those preferring a much bolder design, Lot 1319 Audemars Piguet 18ct gold diamond watch will thrust the wearer under the spotlight. This magnificent bracelet watch is set with more than 30 carats of colourless and fancy yellow diamond, estimated at HK$390,000 – 550,000.

Lastly, there will also be fine clocks and pocket watches in this auction that are surely not to be missed. Lot 1348 is a Patek Philippe gilt brass solar desk clock with a dome shaped top and beautiful Arabesques engraving on the panel, estimated at HK$170,000 – 220,000. Another attractive collectible piece is Lot 1336; a Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock with Asian themed panels estimated at HK$50,000 – 65,000. This will be a striking addition to any desk or mantle of buyers with sophisticated taste. Also a collectible item is Lot 1345, a Patek Philippe keyless pocket watch. A rare piece made in 1902, its minute repeating function still works properly after more than a century. This piece carries an estimate of HK$140,000 – 210,000.
