TIME CAPSULE REVEALS A WEALTH OF TREASURES AT RICHARD WINTERTON AUCTIONEERS

A sixteenth century cottage in the Lichfield area of Staffordshire has revealed a wealth of antiques and valuables when it was emptied for auction recently.

The traditional black and white timbered cottage in a sleepy village setting had every nook and cranny packed with interesting and unusual furniture and artefacts from days gone by. The furniture discovered predominantly dates from the eighteenth century and includes an oak lowboy (a small side table with drawer), a mahogany chest on chest, a Queen Anne design walnut bureau and some earlier oak and country furniture. Unearthed from sealed boxes in the cobweb shrouded attic included articles of solid silver, antique plated wares and portrait miniatures.

The sale is being conducted by Richard Winterton Auctioneers at The Lichfield Auction Centre in two parts.

Part one includes the furniture and will be offered in a three day Auction on 28th to 30th December, (public viewing on Wednesday 28th from 11am to 6.30pm, silver and jewellery to be sold at 5pm, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th from 9am on each day with the latter sales starting at 10am). The illustrated catalogue and full details can be found online at www.the-saleroom.com/richardwinterton

Part two comprises higher value silver, pictures and works of art in The International Fine Art Sale on 29th March.
