Skinner to Host Auction of Fine Wine in Boston Two-part live and online auction to feature over 950 lots

BOSTON, Mass. – Skinner, Inc. will hold a live auction of Fine Wines on May 3rd in its Boston gallery. Following the event, a second offering of lots will be offered on May 4th through May 13th exclusively online with Skinner’s new timed auction platform. Through its partnership with Lower Falls Wine Company of Newton, MA, Skinner’s May sale of Fine Wines offers something for everyone, from wines for current consumption through investment grade bottles.

Investment Wine Assets
Featured in the sale is a broad selection of wines from Bordeaux, Napa, Burgundy and many originating from Champagne. Of particular note is a first growth horizontal lot from 2000 (lot 128, estimated between $45,000 and $65,000) that includes one case of each from the five first growths in the Medoc region of France – Haut Brion, Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux and Mouton Rothschild. The year 2000 was an instant classic in Bordeaux with all five first growth chateaux producing stellar wines that will forever be compared to those from 2005 and 2009.

Rare Cognac
Also on offer is a single bottle of 1820 A. De Luze et Fils grand fine champagne cognac (lot 225, $2,000 to $3,000), possibly the oldest existing example of this distinctive de Luze bottle. This négociant bottling of vintage cognac was likely bottled in the 1840s.

Recently Released 2009 Bordeaux
Cases of 2009 Bordeaux are well represented and include a Chateau Montrose (lot 234, $3,000 to $4,500), a Chateau Duhart Milon (lot 235, $800 to $1,200), and a Chateau Pontet Canet (lot 236, $2,400 to $3,600).

1982 Bordeaux
Just one example from the auction is a collection of 12 bottles of 1982 Mouton Rothschild (lot 100, $9,000 to $14,000). These bottles were bought on release by a true wine enthusiast and stored in a custom built home cellar maintained at 55 degrees. These are truly fine examples of this legendary wine.

2005 Burgundy
There is a strong presence of 2005 Burgundy at the sale featuring outstanding wines from a legendary vintage in the Cote d’Or region of France. This impressive collection of wines is just now starting to open up and includes a superb bottle of Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes (lot 120, $500 to $700), a stunning Bernard Dugat-Py Charmes Chambertin (lot 270, $1,000 to $1,500), six bottles of Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares (lot 678, $1,000 to $1,500), and nine bottles of Bouchard Pere & Fils Clos Vougeot (lot 665, $900 to $1,400).
