A public viewing will be held on September 22nd and 23rd from 1-5PM in the Madison room (located on the third floor) at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel. The address is: 17 East Monroe Street, Chicago, IL 60603
The auction will include a rare painting on silk by Ding Quanpeng (active 1708-1771). An important Qing dynasty painter Ding Quanpeng was active during the reign Kangxi and Qianlong and worked in the Palace Painting Academy. This painting bears a number of seal marks including one from the Emperor Qianlong. At a modest $30,000-$40,000 estimate, it should find a quick buyer.
Another highlight of the auction is a pair of very large Qianlong export porcelain dogs. Regarded as masterpieces of the Export potter’s craft, since the massive size is hard to control in the firing it is quite rare to find a pair of porcelain dogs of this size (21 inches high) with only a few examples having been sold at auction before.
Also in the auction will be a number of other Qing dynasty paintings, some very fine snuff bottles, a selection of jades, bronzes, cloisonné pieces and porcelains as well as Yixing teapots.
