(Chicago, IL) – Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., the largest U.S. wine auction house and renowned retailer, will open its fall season with an exciting auction of finest and rarest wines on September 19th and 20th at Chicago’s award-winning TRU Restaurant. This stellar two-day sale includes 2452 lots, and is estimated to fetch $4.3 – $6.5 million.
Many of this auction’s offerings come from collectors who have longstanding relationships with HDH, and our staff can attest to the caliber and excellent condition of their cellars. This sale will feature a particularly impressive range of red and white Burgundy from noteworthy collectors with impeccable taste and knowledge of the Côte d’Or. Burgundy aficionados will delight in the offer of over 85 lots of DRC (including 8 assortments), more than 70 lots each of Leroy and Rousseau, and many more from Vogüé, Mugnier, Dugat, Leflaive and other top Burgundian winemakers. In total, over 800 lots of red Burgundy and almost 300 of white are estimated to bring in $2.2 – $3.4 million.
Collectors interested in other Old World gems will find an abundance of wines from Bordeaux, the Rhône Valley, Alsace, and Champagne as well as from Italy and Spain. Highlights include three magnums of 1990 Rayas Chateauneuf-du-Pape (est. $5,500-$8,500), 10 bottles of 1982 Pétrus (est. $28,000-$42,000), an imperial of 2004 Ornellaia (est. $4,800-$7,500), and two cases of 1990 Hermitage, La Chapelle from Jaboulet Aîné (each est. $4,200-$6,500).The sale will also present a second installment of extraordinary German wines from the Dr. Landy Bonelli Collection. The wines of Schloss Johannisberger, Egon Müller, Prüm and Kloster Eberbach all appear in this astounding collection, many of which were purchased directly from the Trier & Kloster Eberbach auctions.
California collectors will happily find plenty of New World wines in the September sale. In addition to an array from such sought-after producers as Screaming Eagle, Bryant, Hundred Acre, and Sine Qua Non, the sale also features a beautiful library of Harlan spanning 15 vintages in both bottle and magnum formats. Spirit collectors will be equally thrilled by the sale’s extensive offering of whiskies from around the globe. Rarest offerings include a bottle of The Macallan 50 Year Old Scotch Whisky (est. $12,000-$18,000) and two bottles (of only 1200 produced) of Van Winkle 23yr Family Selection, Unfiltered Bourbon in Glencairn Crystal decanters (each est. $3,200-$4,800).
