Featuring Fine Jewelry, Tiffany Lamps, a Bertoia Sculpture, Georgian & Tiffany & Co. Silver, Chihuly, Picasso, Renoir & Calder

ATLANTA, Ga – Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery is pleased to present the June Fine Estates Auction, full of fine jewelry, watches, fine & decorative art and unique collectibles. With more than 1,200 lots, the sale will span two days, June 29th & 30th, starting at 10 am EDT both days.

The original Tiffany lamps are undoubtedly the stars of the show. The Tiffany Studios ‘Peony’ floor lamp is a testament to the revolutionary design that came out of the studio at the turn of the century (estimate $80,000 – 120,000).

In keeping with the Tiffany family theme, there are a number of pieces from Tiffany & Co., including a very large, elaborately decorated sterling silver dish, a 14k gold belt buckle and an original oil painting by Louis Comfort Tiffany.

“With so many remarkable items, this is going to be a sale full of excitement,” said company owner Robert Ahlers. “My personal favorites are the three large, signed maritime oil paintings by Antonio Jacobsen. The vibrant colors of the sky are striking.”

The Jacobsen paintings are from the estate of Michael C. Cawley. The paintings include the U.S. Army Transport Ship Logan – 1899 (estimate $12,000 – 16,000), the SS Vaderland – 1901 (estimate $10,000 – 15,000) and the SS Aguan – 1889 (estimate $8,000 – 12,000).

This is also a sale for decorative and fine art lovers, with signed etchings and lithographs by Picasso, Renoir and Calder. Noteworthy signed cameo and art glass includes Daum, Gallé and Lalique and Seattle-based American glass master Chihuly.

Pottery highlights include a large collection of antique Rookwood vessels and vases, with an iris glazed work by Kataro Shirayamadani, and an extremely large stoneware vessel by Claude Conover. Conover is a member of the Cleveland School and his work has been shown in 47 exhibitions at museums and art centers around the world.

There are quite a few other notable pieces in this auction. To name just a few, the Sonambient Tonal sculpture by famed artist and furniture designer Harry Bertoia (estimate $20,000 – 40,000), a large, elaborate 19th century mother of pearl dentist case (estimate $8,000 – 16,000), a mid-century modern ‘Snowflake’ chandelier by Paavo Tynell, known as the great pioneer of Finnish lighting (estimate $15,000 – 30,000) and a 1908 $2.5 Indian Gold PR 65, PCGS Proof Graded Coin (estimate $20,000 – 30,000).

Also up for bidding: watches designed by Cartier, Rolex, Tiffany & Co., plus a large collection of estate jewelry, including a 75 carat aquamarine ring once owned by Polish royalty, diamond engagement rings, a diamond and sapphire bracelet and funky metal brooches by artist Tod Pardon.

For the patriots, a large 38-star American flag is among the lots. The 38-star flag was the official flag starting in 1877 and continuing until 1893, when the Dakota territories were split and became states.

This sale contains items from several prominent Americans. From the estate of Charles M. Cawley, founder of MBNA Corp., comes militaria, sports memorabilia, a collection of important nautical paintings including the Jacobsens, and several signed prints by Andrew Wyeth and Jamie Wyeth.

Last but hardly least, this auction’s bronzes include a signed work by Romanian Art Deco artist Demétre Chiparus, plus a large American Western-themed bronze by noted sculptor Carl Kauba.
