Skinner’s June Discovery Auction Features Estate Silver, Jewelry, Couture & Asian Arts

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. Skinner will host its June Discovery auction on Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday June 18th in its Marlborough, Massachusetts gallery at 274 Cedar Hill Street. Session I begins on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with silver, followed by estate jewelry and textiles & couture. Thursday’s session begins at 10 a.m. and features a wide array of furniture and decorative arts, plus ephemera and collectibles.

The auction kicks off with over 200 lots of American and European Silver and Silver Plated Flatware and Holloware, including numerous articles by Tiffany, Gorham, Dominick & Haff and others. The jewelry offerings include a diverse selection of vintage Mexican silver jewelry by noted designers Margot de Taxco, Matl, William Spratling, and others. Examples by these exceptional makers demonstrate that fine craftsmanship and design can still be had at affordable prices. Vintage textiles and designer clothing round out the session with a broad range of hats including Lily Dache, Christian Dior, and Schiaparelli. Dresses and vintage gowns showcase designers Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Pedro Rodrigues, Scaasi, and others.

Session II – Thursday 10 a.m.
Session II will feature Discovery’s usual assortment of 18th, 19th and 20th century estate furniture and decorative arts. Highlights include a large assortment of Victorian-Modern art glass, a wonderful collection of Clinton, Massachusetts ephemera and collectibles, and a large assortment of decorative Asian hardstone carvings.

Auction Previews and Information

All Skinner auctions and previews are open to the public and there is never a charge to attend. Preview in person on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 12 pm-5pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 12 – 7 p.m., and Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 8-9:30 a.m. Auction preview held at Skinner, 274 Cedar Hill Street, Marlborough, Mass.
